The Ode Gen 2 suits a routine built around weighing one batch of beans, choosing a brew setting and grinding into a catch cup. Its range covers filter coffee through cold brew; espresso requires a different grinder.
The Ode Gen 2 makes the most sense when you buy beans for brewed coffee and measure each batch before grinding. Its 100 g bin accommodates a range of recipe sizes, while the stepped dial gives you positions to return to when changing between a pour-over cone and a coarser immersion brew. The 64 mm flat burrs are the standard Gen 2 brew set in this Matte Black model; this listing does not specify an upgraded burr option.
The magnetic cup, grounds knocker and anti-static system address the transfer from grinder to brewer, where loose grounds can otherwise make the routine untidy. They still need cleaning: Fellow specifically calls out the anti-static prongs at the exit chute. Choose this model for a dedicated filter-coffee station. If your next purchase is an espresso machine, plan for an espresso-capable grinder as well, because espresso is outside the Ode’s intended range.
Stepped adjustment is useful when you want a recorded setting to serve as a starting point for the next bag of beans.
Its 105 mm body width is helpful on a coffee shelf; allow additional access for loading beans and removing the catch cup.
