This OXO system separates steeping from serving: coffee brews in an upper container, then drains into a glass carafe when you open the switch. Plan for an overnight batch and dilute the concentrate to taste.
The full-size OXO Cold Brew Coffee Maker is designed for making a supply of concentrate rather than a single ready-to-drink glass. Coffee steeps in the upper brewing container, with the Rainmaker top helping distribute water across the grounds. When the steep is finished, the release switch lets the concentrate drain into the marked glass carafe below. Removing the carafe stops the flow, which is useful when you want to interrupt draining.
OXO’s starting recipe uses 284 g of coarse coffee with 40 fl oz of water and a 12–24-hour counter steep, yielding about 24–28 fl oz of concentrate. The smaller output accounts for water retained by the grounds; it is the useful figure for planning servings. Begin by mixing one part concentrate with two or three parts water or milk, then adjust. Measure the assembled 14.7-inch height against the counter space where the batch will rest.
The release switch keeps the steeping stage separate from collection in the carafe.
Concentrate can be diluted differently for hot coffee, iced coffee or a milk-based drink.
